In March 1977, a series of 10 paper matchboxes was released with the theme: “Greek forests». The aim of the representations of this series was to highlight the usefulness of forests.
Fires are now the leading cause of deforestation.
Tackling fires is one of the key areas where the ability of the state to respond to safeguarding and defending the life, the quality of life, the property of citizens, but also the natural capital of the country, is evaluated.
The organization of the planning and the existence of a modern mechanism for the prevention and suppression of the forest fires are a topical and urgent issue.
The absence –which proves to be criminal– of fire protection is not due to the incompetence of the state and the government but to the fact that it is not a priority!
This series of matchboxes –which is not rare, but it is beautiful– will highlight the beauty of the Greek forests.
