An unusual theme in matchboxes is children’s drawings. One such theme exists in the collection of the “Matchbox Museum” in a French series consisting of 7 matchboxes. Although it is not a relatively old series –released in the early 1980s–, they are still quite rare.
But apart from being rare and original, it is also very beautiful because of its theme.
When children draw, they use their imagination and experience. They think in detail and for the most part they are not very interested in the opinion of the people.
They usually plan spontaneously –and this should be pursued– and their work is honest and revealing about their psychosynthesis.
Painting is a symbolic language that reveals the mental and psychological development of a child and in essence translates what words cannot describe. Through painting the child captures what he sees and feels in the way he perceives it.
For this reason, the interest in children’s painting focuses mainly on the psychological aspect and not on the design ability. It is a “testimony” of what he really receives, wants or does not want from his environment. Through painting, the child externalizes his inner world and his feelings, phobias, anxiety, insecurity…
