One of the most popular and frequent themes of the matchboxes, in almost every country in the world, is dogs. This is due to the development of zoophilia. Most of the time the representations show the different breeds of dogs.
In Greece, zoophilia is gaining more and more ground. At least 15% of the population has one or more pets, while in recent years has begun to develop zoophilic education, especially at a young age. Nevertheless, our country has a long way to go.
Unfortunately, during the pandemic, many became animal lovers out of necessity. Conditions led many to adopt a dog unconsciously. Others so that they can get out of the house more easily, others because, due to the limitation of activities, they found a nice solution to fill their time, not caring about what will happen when they return to normal rhythms.
The increase of stray animals after the end of the quarantine and during the summer months confirms that we have become animal lovers from necessity…
But the stray animals suffer and die late. Their average survival is less than 2 years. The positive fact is that the 250,000 stray animals registered by the Ministry of Agriculture in 1992, are now estimated at 150,000.
However, cases of abuse and torture do not only concern stray animals, but also domestic animals. In fact, it has been proven by many studies that people who become violent towards animals tend to be or are violent towards their fellow human beings.
