For those who don’t remember, “Lycavittos” was a strange organization, rumored to be controlled by Miltiades Evert. At that time, posters with the signature “Lycavittos” were mostly stuck in Athens, but even more rarely you could find matchboxes with stickers of the organization on their front view and backside.
It is no coincidence that both the posters of “Lykavittos” and the matchboxes borrowed the arguments and the front pages of the best representative of the yellow press that ever existed in Greece, the newspaper “Avriani”.
From the title of the newspaper, the term Avrianism was established, which entered our lives for good.
What is Avrianism? An idiosyncratic fascism, a miserable “model” of para-journalism, which always supports the dominant ideology. Avrianism taught us that you can fabricate the biggest lie and the biggest hoax, target people, and not only not get punished, but instead reap benefits and become an important institutional factor.
Avrianism is not over. It still exists today, more sophisticated, perhaps sometimes in a disguised form, in the morning shows, on TV windows, on the internet…
